How Is Infrared Heating Zero Maintenance?
Posted by Navdip Gahir on 3rd Jul 2025
Nothing strikes fear into the heart quite like a boiler breakdown.
The figurative (and literal) chill up your spine as you switch the heating on, and the radiators stay cold, or you flick the hot water tap on, and the temperature is anything but.
Cue the extortionate call out charges, and four figure repair bills. And all because you missed the service that was due last year.
No one wants this. Including us.
That’s why we shout about infrared being zero maintenance so often. But how is infrared zero maintenance? Let’s take a closer look.
They’re Electric
The first clue is the way they’re powered. Infrared heaters run solely off electricity. They’re not burning anything, like a boiler or a car would. They’re just taking electricity from your plug or mains supply, and converting it into comfy IR heat.
This leads nicely onto…
They Have No Moving Parts
As with many other electric goods, IR panel heaters have no moving parts.
This means they suffer from way less wear and tear…because there is nothing to get worn out!
And the most immediate benefit of this is that there’s nothing to service. This is also partly down to…
They’re Built Very Simply
There really isn’t much to an infrared panel. There’s the front surface made from FIR Coating, the carbon crystal heating element, the rear aluminium panel…and the frame to tie it all together.
In a nutshell…there isn’t really much that can go wrong with an infrared panel because of how simple they are. Incidentally, this is also one of the factors that contributes to IR heating’s lower up front costs compared to other types of heating!
The End Result
All this comes together to create a heating system that doesn’t need any on-site combustion to power it, has no moving parts, and is built to be simple from the ground up.
This is why IR panel heaters don’t need to be serviced, or even maintained really, except for the occasional wipe to keep dust at bay.
