On Renovate, Don't Relocate

One of the big questions whenever anyone is faced with infrared is this:

Does infrared really save you money?

The Lower Running Costs

This is the big one. The misconception is that because infrared runs off electricity, it will cost more than gas powered heating.

On the surface, this might be true, however it doesn’t take into account that infrared requires less energy than any type of convection heater because it uses infrared, which is a direct type of heat.

So whilst a convection heater might need around 2kW to heat a small to medium sized room, an infrared heater could probably do it using around 700W (bear in mind these are approximations - heat requirements will change based on room size, insulation level, number of windows etc).

This is why infrared uses approximately 60% less energy than convection heaters. While this does offset the price difference between gas and electricity, it doesn’t take into account all the other savings you’ll make…

Zone Off Your Heating

With any centralised system, you have one source of heat (for example, a boiler) that controls the heaters throughout the entire house - whether you’re using the entire house or not.

Infrared, by way of being electric and decentralised, doesn’t have this problem. If you’re only using your living room, you can switch the heaters off in every other room except the one you’re using.

Where you can mix it up is with our NXT Gen or Nexus IR Panels - as these panels, either via remote control or via Wi-Fi respectively, allow you to group panels together, so if you have three panels in your living room, you can operate them as one, but separate from the rest of your house.

So if you have say, seven rooms in your home, and you’re not warming six of them at any given time…well you can do the maths on that one.

Faster Heat

We’ve all been there - you get in from somewhere, stick the heating on and it takes an age for your home to warm up.

This is one of the drawbacks of convection.

Your radiator gets hot, starts heating the air, then that air rises (so you’re still not feeling it yet), and only once your ceiling is warm, so you start to feel warmer.

Who has time for that?

Infrared is direct. Switch it on, and it starts emitted IR warmth straightaway, and you feel warm within around 10-15 minutes, not the 30-45 minutes it takes for your convection radiators to do their thing.

Faster warm up time means less money spent on bills.

No Servicing

The pang of dread when you remember that you should have serviced your boiler three months ago.

Not only do you have to pay your plumber three figures for the service, but you’re also praying that your boiler makes it until the servicing.

Well, our IR Panels don’t need any servicing. Or any maintenance for that matter.

No unwanted surprises, or unexpected repair bills. Oh, and in the event that one of your panels does develop any faults, the rest of your panels will still function as normal, because the heaters are decentralised.

If your boiler goes, you’ve got zero heating.
