Given how new infrared heating is as a way of heating your home, the knowledge surrounding the technology and ability to identify problems with it is lacking when compared to something more conventional, like gas powered central heating for example.
That’s why we’ve put together an easy trouble-shooter for the most common symptoms you might come across when using infrared heating.
Symptom #1 – Heater Will Not Turn On
Cause/Solution #1 – Double check that the heater is connected to a power source, and that there is no damage to the flex cable.
Cause/Solution #2 – Try connecting a working electrical appliance to the same socket to determine that the circuit is working.
Cause/Solution #3 – If the heater has a manual on/off switch (like the NXT Gen IR Panels or Helios IR Bar Heaters), check that this is on the ‘On’ position.
Cause/Solution #4 – If your heater utilises a remote control, ensure that the batteries have not ran flat by swapping in new batteries.
Symptom #2 – Strange Smell Coming from the Heater
Cause/Solution #1 – This is normal upon first use, especially when using the Helios IR Bar Heaters, as the heating element burns off the protective oils used to guard it during transit.
Symptom #3 – The Heater is Overheating
Cause/Solution #1 – Switch the heater off at the mains and let it cool down completely. Switch the heater back on and if the problem persists, contact the retailer immediately.
Cause/Solution #2 – If you are using a thermostat, this may be causing the issue. Either try a different thermostat or contact your local electrician to investigate the symptom.
Cause/Solution #3 – If your panel is ceiling mounted, ensure that there is adequate gap between the ceiling and the panel by lowering the suspension cable.
Symptom #4 – The Heater is not Warming the Room Up
Cause/Solution #1 – Your heater may not be the correct power for your room. Consult our wattage calculator located on every product page to determine the correct number of heaters for your room.
Symptom #5 – The Heater is Making a Strange Noise
Cause/Solution #1 – This is normal upon first use, and can persist longer term to a lesser extent. The reason is that the heating element will expand slightly as it gets hotter, and then contract slightly when it cools.
Symptom #6 – I Don’t Know How to Use a Function on the NXT Gen Remote
Cause/Solution #1 – For all NXT Gen Remote functionality, please refer to either our NXT Gen Remote Manual, or you can watch the video below:
