Pick The Right IR Heater For The Right Room
Posted by Navdip Gahir on 22nd Jan 2026
Heating and heaters used to be a bulky thing that lived under your window, and we just accepted it for what it was.
Heating has evolved though, and we now take looks into far greater consideration. Designer radiators are a thing, as are matte-effect heated towel rails for bathrooms.
Infrared heating is no different, it definitely heats whilst looking good (and throws in energy efficiency, drastically reduced dust circulation and space saving for good measure).
It’s a super option for pretty much any home then. And in this guide, we’re going to show you which ranges are best suited for which rooms.
The Statement Piece For The Living Room
Our recommendation here is to go for an Image IR Panel or a Custom Image IR Panel.

We spend most of our time in the living room, so it needs to be a space that feels comfortable and homely. This is why most people like soft lighting and warm colours here too.
So why settle for a white box when you can hang up a masterpiece, or even better, a personalised photo.
Each of our image and custom image panels come with Wi-Fi built-in too, so they’re not just pretty faces - they give you home automation capabilities, along with full compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant.
The Dual Purpose Heater For The Bathroom
There’s only one option that makes sense for the bathroom, and that’s the Mirror IR Panels.

Bathrooms are some of the smallest rooms in the house, so space is already at a premium. And most of us have mirrors in our bathrooms anyway - not just for practical purposes, but they also help open up a room too, acting like an extra window..
Mirror IR Panels are high-end mirrors that also happen to be heaters. As an added bonus, your mirror won’t steam up after a hot bath or shower!
There is a second option too, and that’s our IR Towel Rails. This is also a super option as towel rails have become really popular over the past few years, and ours come with dedicated towel drying modes and built-in Wi-Fi.
The Silent Option For The Bedroom
One of the best options for the bedroom is the Classic Panels.

The reason why is simple - the Classic IR Panels are totally silent when they’re working their magic.
The truth is all IR Panels are silent, however the NXT Gen and Nexus Panels will beep when they switch on - if you’re a light sleeper, this might not be ideal.
In order to control your Classic Panel, you’ll have to use a separate thermostat with it, be it plugin or hardwired. Plugin thermostats are pretty simple, and hardwired thermostats will require an electrician to fit, adding a professional level of integration.
Targeted Heat For The Office
With more people working from home, having an office at home is now a normal thing. For these spaces, we’d go for either a Portable IR Panel, or an IR Bar Heater, depending on your use case.

If you’ve converted a small space like a box room or a little corner of your living room into your personal office space, then a Portable Panel is perfect.
They’re great at heating pockets of space at very low energy consumptions, without having to heat up your entire house.
If you have a larger, dedicated office space however, an IR Bar Heater would work better, as the higher heat output lends itself well to larger, more open spaces with less furniture.
Space Savers For The Hallway
Similar to bathrooms, hallways aren’t always the most spacious of places. This is why we’d recommend either a Mirror IR Panel, or one of our White Ultraslim IR Panels.

A mirror is pretty self explanatory, as many people use mirrors in their hallways anyway (a quick check in the mirror before you’re about to head out is never a bad thing). There’s no reason why you wouldn’t also use this to heat your hallway space too.
If however your wall space is incredibly limited or narrow, this is where our Ultraslims come into play. They measure just 300 x 1200mm, so they can fit into a tight bit of wall space, or even on your ceiling, making sure you feel warm as soon as you come back in from outdoors.
Some Basics To Consider
Regardless of your personal heating choices, there are some basics you’ll always need to adhere to.
The first is making sure you have the right amount of heat. This is simple to work out.
Multiply your Length by your Width by your Height in metres to get the cubic volume of your space.
Then, multiply that cubic volume by 25 for well insulated spaces, 30 for moderately insulated spaces, or 35 for poorly insulated spaces.
This gives you the amount of infrared heat needed for your room in Watts.
Then we have to decide how many panels we need. In general, you just need to remember that infrared panels have a range of around 3m, so think about your spaces in 3 x 3m blocks. You can learn more about this in the video below.
Then it’s just a case of deciding whether you want simple on/off heaters, remote control panels or smart Wi-Fi heating.
Whichever you choose, you’re getting “fit and forget” heating, as IR needs zero maintenance, so you can forget about needing to service them or anything like that.
